OBI Care Promotes Collaborative Service to Humanity

Outward Bound Indonesia inaugurates OBI Care (read: OB I Care) as a commitment for service to humanity. OBI Care’s mission is to inspire and empower people to be confident, interdependent, responsible, compassionate and caring to the world around them in the hope of making this humanitarian effort come to full circle and therefore grow organically.

I Care!
An important part of OBI Care is the “I” part, I Care. We each have a responsibility as world citizens to care about our community but more importantly to act upon it. Care is not a feeling. It’s meaningless unless it’s put into action. As Prophet Mohammed phrased it, ”A person's true wealth is the good he or she does in the world.”. In the same spirit, OBI Care endeavours to collaboratively with fellow global citizens help empower those less fortunate reach their best potential.

OBI Care Collaborative Humanitarian Project
Through OBI Care, Outward Bound Indonesia in a collaborative force with 7 of Indonesia’s major institutions gave an Outward Bound Personal Development Program scholarship to 16 underprivileged recipients. The recipients are comprised of men and women of Karang Taruna (Youth Organization), school teachers and Yayasan Lekania. The scholarship recipients went on a 4-day Outward Bound journey, from 5-8 September 2007 in which their life-skills are put to the test; they had to work together, they had to be leaders as well as followers, they had to be decision makers, they had to be responsible, disciplined, interdependent and compassionate for others.

Inauguration & Graduation
OBI Care was inaugurated by Djoko Kusumowidagdo, MBA, Founder & CEO of Outward Bound Indonesia and Sarwono Kusumaatmadja, Patron of Outward Bound Indonesia on September 8, 2007 following the graduation ceremony for the scholarship recipients.
